Former beauty queen Kate Tsui reportedly bought a unit worth HKD$10.8 million (about S$1.7 million), at Hong Kong's Bel-Air Residence with her mother.
The apartment is now believed to be worth HKD$12 million (about S$1.85 million).
During an interview in April this year, the actress claimed that she had yet to fulfill her dream of buying a property in Hong Kong, as the property prices are much more expensive than that in 1997.
Kate's mother, on the contrary, confessed that Kate owning a property is an "open secret".
The contradicting statements from mother and daughter lead to a series of speculation, including the rumour that Kate had dated a rich businessman when she entered showbiz in 2007.
According to the Hong Kong media, Kate's current salary is only HKD$5000 per drama episode (about S$770 per episode). Even if she were to take on five dramas in a row, and some minor projects in China, it was impossible for her to afford a unit at the high-end Bel-Air Residence.
As such, when Kate first moved into Bel-Air Residence in 2009 and became neighbours with veteran actors like Chou Yun Fatt, Nick Cheung and Louis Koo, it was rumoured that Kate was secretly dating a billionaire businessman with an inheritance of HKD$2 billion (about S$300 million).
