According to a Hong Kong magazine report, Hong Kong actresses Myolie Wu and Fala Chen are in the race for the Best Leading Actress at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards.
Fala should have been excited for one of the biggest nights in her career. However, at a recent event, the actress appeared listless and seemed to have lost a tremendous amount of weight.
In an interview, she admitted that she had been having health problems.
"Several days ago, the left side of my face was in pain and became completely numb. I went to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor said there are problems with my facial nerves. If it gets worse, I could be facing facial paralysis," Fala revealed.
The actress explained that the main cause of her health problems was fatigue, as well as the stress and tough conditions during filming. She often experienced dizziness and headaches. However, she did not go to the doctor, thinking that it would heal over time.
Fala added that her doctor recommended that she takes time off to rest. With support from her family and company, the actress will return to the US to seek medical treatment and recuperate for about a month.
She will complete the filming of East West Raiders and make an appearance at the TVB Anniversary Awards first.
Fala, who was initially confirmed as the lead in Prominent Family, one of TVB's main dramas for next year, will now pull out of the drama which will begin filming next month.
"I've done quite a bit of research. My character in the show has great developmental opportunities. I regret that my present condition doesn't allow me to take on the show," a disappointed Fala said.
TVB production and resource director, Virginia Lok expressed, "Fala was very keen to take on the role in Prominent Family. She knew the role would really allow her to showcase her acting talent, but she is worried that her condition will cause inconveniences [during the filming]. We agree that she should give up the role because her health is more important."
